Why I’m Running

I’m running for Cass County Sheriff in 2026 to bring my experience and leadership to protect our families, keep our schools safe, and respond effectively to the addiction and mental health challenges our community faces. Together, we can ensure every resident of Cass County feels safe and supported. I’d be honored to earn your vote!

After almost three decades of serving Cass County as a law enforcement officer I intend to focus on the following topics if elected:

  1. Addiction & Overdose Response: Naloxone Training for deputies, community partnerships, and treatment first diversion.
  2. School Safety: Collaboration with schools, having deputies visible on campuses, organizing campus wide training events to ensure maximum safety efforts are being achieved by protocols, and creating a strong line of communication between students, school staff, parents, and law enforcement.
  3. Training & Modern Equipment: Ongoing deputy training focusing on safety, meeting all requirements set forth by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board as well as first responder mental health, updating gear to give our deputies the necessary tools to better serve our community, and furthering deputy career education.
  4. Jail Safety & Mental Health: Screening for mental health issues, community reentry planning, treatment referrals, and maintaining safe staffing levels.
  5. Policing for Cass County’s Small Towns: Building trust, visibility, and relationships with residents, being present and accessible, proactive crime prevention, timely response and being transparent.

Drug Addiction & Mental Health Issues

In a rural county like ours, drug addiction and mental health struggles aren’t distant issues. They affect our neighbors, our families, our coworkers, and our first responders every single day. Too often, the same people cycle through the Cass County Jail, the emergency room, and the courts because the root problems aren’t being addressed correctly.

I believe law enforcement must do more than just react after a crisis happens. We must work hand-in-hand with local mental health professionals, treatment providers, schools, courts, and community organizations to identify problems early. We should connect those struggling with drug addiction with proper resources and reduce repeat offenses.

In our jail we should focus on bringing in more drug rehabilitation programs for those that are incarcerated for drug offenses. Being incarcerated alone does not cure addiction. As a former Cass County Jail Commander, I have witnessed how being incarcerated affects individuals’ mental health. I believe that a passionate and professional mental health evaluation program should be implemented in our detention facility. Accountability matters, but so does compassion and common sense.

When we address addiction and mental health the right way, we don’t just help individuals — we strengthen families, reduce crime, protect our first responders, and make Cass County safer. Public safety isn’t just about arrests; it’s about prevention, treatment, and giving people a real chance to turn their lives around.

This is the kind of leadership and partnership I believe Cass County deserves.

Transparency Matters in Leadership

Transparency is essential for the people of Cass County. Over the past 30 years of my career at the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, I have taken pride in my integrity and transparency. I understand that the Sheriff’s Office belongs to the people, and the public deserves honesty and openness from the person leading it.

I believe in being upfront with my story and providing the voters with full disclosure.

In 2016, I was diagnosed with throat cancer. I underwent radiation and chemotherapy during my treatment. As a result of those treatments, I experienced two strokes. It was a difficult chapter in my life, but it was one that strengthened my appreciation for every day I have to serve my family and this community.

Today, I’m proud to say I am a cancer survivor, and my health is at 100%.

Since that time, I have continued to live an active life. I’ve worked full time at the Sheriff’s Office while serving part time as the Royal Center Town Marshal. I continue to run my own business, Campbell’s Firearms. I attend school events and outdoor sports. I’ve also stayed active in hobbies I enjoy such as hot rodding, welding, and machining. I have climbed mountains on hunting trips in the West periodically and enjoyed life at its fullest.

These experiences haven’t slowed me down. They’ve shown me the importance of perseverance, accountability, and staying committed to the responsibilities placed in front of you.

I’m sharing this because the people of Cass County deserve transparency from those seeking their vote. I am proud to inform the voters that I feel competent, capable, and in good health to proficiently lead and manage the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. My commitment to this community has never been stronger, and I am ready to continue serving with honesty, dedication, and transparency.
